2012: Year of the Dragon

Although I'm not too caught up in mysticism I find it interesting to read up on the Dragon and what it represents.
Ultimately, whether you have a good or bad year falls upon your own shoulders, and really when you think of it, there isn't such a thing as a good or bad year.
Every year you simply LEARN.
You take the feedback you've been given and make adjustments.
If you look at your year from a standpoint of having won or lost you'll just beat yourself up.
You can't possibly win in all areas of your life.
I sure didn't win in all areas of my life last year.
But that's the point.
Living and learning is a journey not a destination.
Will you continue to make the same mistakes or bad choices you made last year, this year?
What happens when you paddle the row boat with the same hand?
You go in circles right?
Your growth depends on your ability to turn weaknesses into strengths.
And nobody ever said you had to be perfect either.
Just identify one thing you would like to do better this year.
No pressure, no stress.
You have 365 days (actually a bit less than that) to make that one thing better.
Once you make that one change, your new enthusiasm will drift to another area you need work on, and the momentum will grow.
Every year is a success.
Real success is what you've done compared to what you could have done.
Could you have done more or less?
I'll let YOU think about that.

Martial Art Training
When should you start Martial Art Training?
In most cases the answer is: I should of started 20 years ago.
Realistically?
Right Now.
There's definitely no "right time" to get started.
But I do know the longer you wait, you miss out on a slew of health benefits that, as you get older, you would of wished you had acquired.
It's funny how everyone plans for their retirement and you might fall into this category as well; Investments, RRSPs, travel, etc... but you fail to plan the most important part of your life:
Your Health.
Yes! You should plan your health.
How are you going to stay Strong, Healthy and Vibrant well into old age?
Some people make that realization a little too late in their life.
If you happen to sit close to a group of seniors on a Sunday morning for breakfast you'll understand what I mean.
It's unfortunate to hear some of the stories about heart attacks, high blood pressure, digestive problems, sickness and disease, but some, if not most of their health issues could of have been avoided or solved with some simple adjustments in their lifestyle if only precautionary measures would have been put in place earlier in their life.
Why wait to the point where it's too late? Or decide to do something about your health after you have a heart attack? or stop smoking when you're diagnosed with cancer?
Any which way you slice it, Health is numero uno.
Just look around you. In your family and relatives. People in general.
You already know what happens when health is completely ignored or given little attention.
I don't know about you but I don't need to add myself to that statistic.
Be pro-active.
Make Fitness a priority.
Tomorrow I'll cover why you should choose Martial Arts over any other form of exercise.
Stay tuned.
Master Yourself,
Sibok M
P.S. For those who are ready to get started here's what you can do for optimal personal fitness.

Get a competitive edge
This little tip is straight out of the advanced strength training kit coming out soon but can be applied to any exercise in the basic and intermediate training kits.
It's Oxygen Deprivation.
When doing any exercise, whether it's mountain jumps, back stretch # 2 or sprints. Hold your breath for as long as possible while still performing your exercise at maximum output.
You'll quickly realize how strength training this way will take you to the next level.
This is why some athletes train at high altitude and then compete at lower elevations when possible.
Some athletes sleep in an oxygen deprivation tent to increase the capacity of their lungs.
Their increased lung capacity enables them to absorb oxygen faster while competing and provide them with a competitive edge.
Surfers carry rocks and sprint under water using the same principle.
When trying this training method for the first time you might feel a little dizzy and uncomfortable but knowing that you're making your body (and lungs) more efficient at using oxygen the next time around, is a good trade-off.
You're depriving yourself momentarily to make big gains in stamina and energy later.
One thing you shouldn't deprive your muscles of is getting the right strength training information found in both the basic and intermediate training kits.
You can find it here.
Master Yourself,
Sibok Martin
P.S The only thing you shouldn't deprive yourself of is valuable information. Get your hands on it ASAP.

Like breathing through a straw?
That last comment on my last e-mail really hit home for me when I originally read about that statistic years ago. I hope it did for you too.
In case you missed it, here it is again: By the time you get to be 70 years old your lungs will have shrunk by 50%?
I say: "Not If I have anything to say about it". I know it is inevitable but I can surely post-pone that from happening that quickly.
Imagine breathing through a straw?
That really motivates me to do my deep breathing exercises. It does seem to be so basic and simple but it's invaluable. You just need to do it.
Apart from the deep breathing pattern I've been talking about, I also recommend you train once a week (for starters) with your mouth piece in.
It forces you to breathe through your nose and not from the mouth. It has the same effect as to strength training with a weight vest on, once you remove it and perform the same exercise it makes it easier to perform that same exercise.
The mouth piece causes that same pressure on your lungs and once you train without it you'll feel an increase in your stamina and the control you have over your breath.
I do cover a lot of variations to increasing stamina and lung capacity as well as changing up the way you train in our intermediate strength training kit.
If you're ready for it pick it up here.
Master Yourself,
Sibok Martin
P.S There are many other ways to increase lung capacity and strength, you can wait as I slowly release them here and there or grab your intermediate strength training kit now and start benefiting from them today.
