About mixed martial arts Pro Fighter Julien Leblanc

One of our soon to be Pro Fighters, Julien Leblanc talks about (in French) his experience training with the Patenaude Team, what it takes to succeed in your training and how he got to be where he's at in MMA.

Julien has accomplished alot in the past 5 years. He literally could not do one single push-up when he started.

He had low self-confidence.

And was overweight.

Now, he's one of our top competitors, he's undefeated and he's making his Pro debut in September.

Julien's story isn't an isolated incident.

You too can make a positive change in your life by joining our team. All that is required is effort, perseverance and commitment.

Get started today with a free 7 day pass.

Local Fight Circuit a Success

I just finished uploading a new Fight Night Video from our last event in February.

Watch as "first timers" show off their skills and gain the experience they will need to step it up into amateur and pro circuits.

This really is our breeding ground for our up and coming fighters.

Judging the success of our fighters during the past year in various circuits, SFL and Hybrid, notably, our winning formula of starting them out with full protection and 12 oz gloves to an open face and 10 oz gloves is a great way to protect our fighters when climbing the ranks and getting them ready for the Instinct Pro Circuit in Montreal.

Cedric Mongeon leads the way with his pro fight debut in June and quick to follow suit, a stable of a dozen fighters are ready to make the leap later this summer.

"It's very exciting" says Sifu Patrick Marcil, "It's always been our dream to bring a fighter up to the UFC and now judging how it's going, it won't be just one, and our dream is closer than we thought, all this in record time".

Watch the video and let me know what you think, you think some of these guys are going to make it?

Only time will tell.

Cung Le Teaser Fight Camp 2011

As you might already know Cung uses Sanshou techniques to dominate his opponents.

Sanshou means "Free Hand" or traditionally, Sparring is called Sanda which means "Free Fighting". It's a mixture of various Kung-Fu styles rolled into one. Kinda like how the Soviets created their Sambo or how MMA has evolved in North America.

Naturally, Kung-Fu practitioners gravitate towards Cung because of the connection.

And we’re not any different.

We’ve been following Cung’s career for a long time and always appreciated how well he applied the principles of Kung-Fu in competitions.

That said, when the opportunity presented itself to train privately and have him come down as a guest of honour at our annual Fight Camp, we couldn’t pass it up.

With Cung’s help we’ll be training and preparing our fighters for national level competitions and getting them ready for the Canadian Olympic Team try-outs for Sanshou.

Click here to view a teaser video of our Fight camp with Cung Le in action.

Apart from Cung’s awesome skill, what impressed me the most about him is; he’s one of the most down to earth guys I’ve ever met. A true martial artist.

Friendship Always.

Cung Le vs Wanderlei Silva

We'll be rooting for him in his upcoming match against Wanderlei Silva.

Cung Le isn't just a fighter. He holds very strong traditional values of honor, respect and dedication. It's rare to see this kind of balance in today's fighters.

We're looking forward to continuing our work with him in the future.

Fight Night was Dynamite

Fight Night was in full swing this weekend and the fighters really put on a good show.

Sifu Patrick and Sifu Stephane hosted the event and fighters came from within our 25 locations to participate.

As with every Fight Night there are some surprises; knock-outs, reversals, and improvements amongst the fighters.

Originally conceived to give our competitive students a place to gain experience, confidence and sharpen their skills, it has also become the best way to keep these aspiring fighters hungry and raising the bar. Not in a negative, ego driven way but in a spirit of teamwork.

When these fighters go back to their respective schools they then pass on what they've learned to other students through the drills and sparring routines we have them go through. In the end everyone gets better and learning is greatly accelerated.

Be part of our winning team.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. I'll have the Fight Highlights ready for tomorrow. Check for the link tomorrow.

Saturday Night Fights

Looking for something to do this weekend?

How about some Saturday Night Fights?

Do things a bit out of the ordinary this weekend.

Instead of doing the same old thing, come experience the thrill of watching some Sanshou Fights.

Sanshou rules call for more explosive and entertaining bouts.

When you throw in the mix Punching, Kicking and Throwing it makes for a more dynamic visual display of skill than Boxing or Kickboxing combined.

You might even know some of the fighters competing this weekend and I'm sure they would appreciate your support.

You can reserve a ticket here.

More Sanshou Pics

Many new pictures are trickling in from our Demonstration at this year's World Kobudo Convention.

If you haven't yet seen the demo on video you can check it out here.

These pics are from the Sparring Section of our Demo.

Integrating Punching, Kicking, Knees and Wrestling with Sanshou rules is a great way to build a strong foundation skill wise and teaches you to exploit an opponent's momentary lack of balance and use it against him with pin point accuracy.

MMA or Mixing the arts is more than just doing Boxing, Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu.

More and more schools are realizing this, every art has something to bring to the table but the secret is in the way you integrate them together the way FSD has done so well.

Come train with us and see what I mean.

Armenian Assassin is Coming to Town!

I don't know about you but it seems nowadays, someone, somewhere is trying to keep you or put you in a box.

Think about it.

No wonder most people never really step out of their comfort zones, we've been trained since we're young to stay in the box.

There are boxes all around us.

In the morning you get up from your box bed, step out of your box house or box apartment into a box automobile or subway box car.

Then step into the box elevator and into your box office or box classroom.

Stare at the box screen in front of you, out from one box and into another throughout the day and some throughout their life and eventually straight into a box coffin where you stay eternally.

Some don't live in physical boxes, they live in mental ones in the form of never learning a new skill, being complacent, never taking a chance, or being reactive to life instead of being proactive and designing the kind of life you want for yourself or your family.

Human Beings aren't made to stay in boxes. We're not made to be categorized, labeled, stamped and left to suffocate between 4 walls. Yet, it does feel like that sometimes.

And it isn't different for us. People always try to categorize or put us in a box when it comes to what we do in the martial arts.

Some might say: "Oh, you use your hands and feet a lot you're a stand up art","You do weapons so you must be a Kali man", or "You do a lot of close quarter infiltration techniques, you do Wing Chun right?" and on and on it has been for years.

Being labeled to me is like a prison sentence. A trap from which I cannot escape.

I prefer to keep my freedom and set no boundaries for myself or my family's art. Free to express ourselves in all areas of the martial arts without restriction.

Which brings me to the purpose of my e-mail today.

A lot of people think we don't grapple or do ground work (Here we go with that box thing again). Big mistake.

I've always enjoyed Wrestling and have fond memories of Wrestling my dad along with my brother on the living room floor when we were kids, a tradition I've kept with my own kids and I'm sure some of you did the same with your father when you were a child.

On June 5th we're holding our Fang Shen Do Fight Camp right here in Casselman, Ontario at the Pagoda. Featuring Advanced Sanshou (Chinese Kickboxing), Ring Craft and Conditioning and special guest, Gokor "The Armenian Assassin" Chivichyan. Which I believe is one of the best grapplers in the world today.

His expertise and teaching prowess is unmatched on the ground and he follows the same idea of not getting stuck in a box when it comes to grappling styles. That's the kind of guy we wanted for our grappling division. Not limited to one art but being influenced by many, including but not limited to: Sambo, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and Catch Wrestling.

An event not to be missed. Start time is 10 am Saturday morning and runs until 3 pm in the afternoon.

FSD Members can register here.

Non-Members are welcome to attend if spaces are still available. You can pre-register here to reserve your spot and will be refunded if event is sold out.

It's Louse Time! Repetition vs Modeling

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self-starters, Welcome.

(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Friday is always what I call: "Louse Time". Modeled after Bruce Lee's strategy in Enter the Dragon. You know that part where he's having tea with the government agent but he's disturbed by one of his students and Bruce Lee tells the agent: It's Louse Time!

The agent replies with his British accent: "yes of course". Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Repetition vs Modeling

These 2 methods will certainly get you to where you want to go.

You may need to do both.

But you don't have to.

One method leads you down a solemn road of trial and error, set-backs, frustration, pain, and hard work.

The other method, the superior method gets you the same results in half the time. All you have to do is follow the plan and whatever you're looking for is within your grasp.

Results come quickly and makes you wonder why you didn't follow this method in the first place.

You've guessed it.

Modeling is the preferred method for accelerated learning. Certainly, the old saying of:

"Repetition is the mother of skill" holds some merit but modeling someone who already has what you want and in turn mimicking exactly what they did to get it is a guaranteed winner.

This weekend you'll have the opportunity to do just that.

All of our school owners, Sifus and students are converging in Casselman this Saturday morning at 10:30 am for a day of training and advanced learning.

This event is open to all FSD Students and non students alike.

Why should you attend?

We try to organize these kinds of events as many times as possible throughout the year but still, it's not enough.

Very seldomly will you have all of FSD's Top instructors, not to mention our Founder Sijo Jacques Patenaude all present in the same venue to help you advance your skills in Weapons, Grappling, Energy Work, Trapping Hands, Conditioning and Athleticism, Sanshou Sparring Drills and the list goes on.

Priced at 30$, it's a no-brainer.

To reserve your spot and register click here.
